Diablo Items Azmodan is the Lord of Sin


- The seven deadly sins are: Wrath, Greed, Sloth, Pride, Lust, Envy, and Gluttony (Wikipedia, 2011)

At the 1:20 mark of the black soulstone cinematic we see what looks like a council room with several diablo items thrones and one large throne in the middle. Specifically we see is from Right to left, three regular thrones, one large throne and then three more regular thrones each with a demon sitting upon it with a different headdress awaking.

- There are total seven thrones, one representing each sin.

Problem: The center throne should belong to Azmodan himself, however he represents all seven sins. There is a throne missing for the seventh sin.
Potential solution: Perhaps Azmodan accounts for what is the considered the worst of the seven sins? A quick google search lead me to this answer which seems the most thought out.

This may have also just been a design choice because with 8 thrones Azmodan diablo items couldn't be center or would have to be behind/in-front

-We know that boss fights would be more strategy based and there would be methods to retrieve health globes during fights

-I speculate that when we face Azmodan, we will have to also fight the other council members. These council members would make the diablo items boss encounter more dynamic and provide opportunities for players to find health globes. (e.g. council member summons weaker demons)

-It was speculated back in early 2010 that Azmodan would possess skills and traits representing the seven sins?here. I believe the cinematic cements the fact that we will instead have to at some point fight minions representing deadly sins along with Azmodan.?
Didn't notice the 7 diablo items thrones, but ye makes sense it's a reference to the 7 sins.?


As for Azmodan representing the 7 sins, I believe the design team tried to incorporate this into his design.?
Mostly by small features such as jewelry & piercings to account for pride. Gluttony, greed, lust are all represented by his rather "large" appearance. Wrath comes to play from his inner furnace, more or less.?
You should give a look at the "making of the black soulstone panel" video.?

I think It's Leonard who says that Azmodan Has 7 commanders each one representing one of the 7 sins, but in the game you will only encounter 2 of them.

the first one is surprise and the second diablo items is the "mistress of pain" but she now has a new name (I can't remember which... just check it on the video.)

About the black soulstone cinematics they have also said that it's not the complete cinematic, because they didn't want to spoil too much, and besides that maybe you only see 6 thrones because of the aesthetic look or just because the camera angle isn't enough to show them all.

But one thing is certain. Asmodan is The Lord of diablo items, and he as one commander for each of the 7 sins. (confirmed by blizzard)?


About that... and like I said on other thread, maybe that is just a confusion on the denominations, because we all know the 7 diablo items Evils (OLD prime and lesser ones). Maybe now that they are all gone except Belial and Azmodan (at least, as far as we know), maybe they are called the prime evils now! and the lesser evils are their generals. But this is just a guess and maybe someone should ask this on the official forums.

Yeah, I dont think they'll answer anything lore related.

But, on the same subject, there is no way we can assume that the lesser evils are now called Prime Evils, and that the lesser evils generals are now called lesser evils. Nobody said diablo items to make us think that.

The only thing we know, is that Azmodan wants to turn into THE prime evil. And to do so, he would have to eliminate the diablo items current prime evils, and the prime evil wannabes. That's why he needs the "black soulstone".
It would be wrong to assume he already is considered the prime evil, and his generals lesser evils.

Plus, there are six creatures on the thrones, and there should be seven.?
@Eroon - Lilith isn't a lesser Evil... She was the daughter of Mephisto and She is gone since the Sin War. The "Lesser Evil" missing there is Belial.

@Me - heh Mistress of Pain now called Mistress of Lust and is one of the 2 diablo items generals of Azmodan that we will encounter.

@Calavera666 - The question isn't really Lore related. It is more a miss-understanding about the denomination of the diablo items demons on the thrones. Maybe we would be lucky and get an answer.

And the Prime Evils have been destroyed already. They all came from the same Evil, they all are "brothers", and the lesser evils have already beaten the prime ones before. And Azmodan wants to be The Prime Evil.?

I agree with you when you say we can't assume he already is a prime evil, but we have to assume that inside Blizzard he is something like that.

what that guy calls "lesser evils" can be something less than all the diablo items 7 really important badass demons we know are the "bosses" heh

I don't recognize any of those lesser Evils from the 4 original lesser ones + the 3 prime ones.

So or you're saying that Baal and Meph and Andariel and Duriel all got a new shape and got resurrected, or you're saying that those are the original thrones and are now occupied by the diablo items generals of azmodan, or I don't know what you're saying... =P?
The cinematic guys have been working close with the lore guys for years now. I really dont think they'll randomly name creatures as "lesser evils" just for fun. They know what the creatures are, they have been working on the diablo items concept art long time, they even say that the lesser evils must look like a shady and smokey creatures. At this time, I can't tell you who those creatures are, but I tell you this, those are NOT Azmodan's generals.

Plus, think about it. The creatures look old, skinny, emaciated and quite archaic. If they wanted to make 7 sins themed creatures, this are not the right designs for it.?
You have your point there. But If Azmodan is trying to be the one and only Prime Evil, For sure he wouldn't be in a room, telling all his plans to the other lesser evils right??

Besides, of the 4 lesser evils, Azmodan and Belial are in their full form, and look nothing like those guys. Even if 2 of them could be (and I'm not saying they are) Andariel and Duriel, you would still have one miss-placed lesser evil!

So Even if they are not Azmodan generals... the only possible explanation I can think about diablo items is that 2 of them are Andariel and Duriel and the third one is Belial... which you probably can kill sooner in the game... but that sound like a shitty theory!...?

Btw... anyone else thought that Blizzcon 2011 was a little bit of a disappointment? Yeah we got a really cool diablo items cinematic and making of... but still, it would have been a lot cooler with a release date or a launch for the Book of Cain... Something Epic!

We know the look of one of the 2 generals you will find diablo items in-game. She's the Mistress of Lust, formerly known as Mistress of Pain. And we also know that Azmodan have 7 generals, because leonard boyarsky said so. So... or Azmodan have only six generals with him on the throne room, or he have them all "working" around hell and then sanctuary and those are Morlus (like Vagelis said) or they are something else... But we all have some good points on our posts.

1- There are 7 generals but only six thrones
2- Most likely Azmodan owns the Big Throne since he rules Hell
3- Those 3 generals look nothing like the sins or like the other general we already know.
4- Is it possible in any way that the only reason we can't see the diablo items seventh throne for the generals is because of the camera angles??

So, can they be other high ranked demons that protect the king of hell or Azmodan in specific? Like his Special guard, while his 7 generals do the hard work??
