Play Hi-Fi Rush with a real guitar or air guitar using Joy-Con motion controls! Or use an alternative control scheme to play it like a Wii game.

Guitar control scheme 吉他控制方案

The way the mod works is as follows:

Move right joy-con down the guitar for a regular attack

Move right joy-con up the guitar for a heavy attack

Slap the guitar with right joy-con to jump

The right Joy-Con should be held with the buttons and stick facing away from the guitar. This means camera control is hindered somewhat.

When using a real guitar the plastic guard for the right trigger should touch the strings. You might want to use some tape to prevent the right trigger from accidentally being pressed.

The left Joy-Con can be used for movement. I suggest mapping the left shoulder button to dodging. Meanwhile the tiny buttons on the side of the right Joy-Con are mapped to magnet (SR button) and partner attack (SL button).

I tried the normal difficulty and it's pretty challenging to stay on beat when playing with a real guitar. It might be better to play on easy or to focus on upgrades that make the timing less strict. When using an air guitar pose, it's a lot easier to stay on beat because there's no physical interference in your movements.

Alternatively you can use the regular motion control scheme I included. This works as follows:

I think this control scheme is very intuitive and it's very easy to stay on beat. However, unlike the guitar control scheme and control schemes I've used in other games, this one led to a sore right wrist when playing for 60+ minutes. It's probably best not to push it if you feel discomfort.

Please note that this mod does not edit any game files. It uses my app BetterJoyMotion to emulate an Xbox 360 controller with a pair of joy-cons and implement motion controls. It should work on any version of the game, and basically any game that accepts Xbox controller inputs. You can find it on GitHub to configure yourself, but the package I upload here is already configured for Hi-Fi Rush.

Unpack the compressed file (it's just 6.36 MB).

Go into the Drivers folder and install VigemBus if you don't have it already. This driver is used to create virtual Xbox 360 controllers on PCs. You can also download the driver elsewhere if you prefer.

Run BetterJoyForCemu.Exe.

Connect your right Joy-Con first, wait for it to be recognized and only then connect your left Joy-Con. It is important for them to be listed in this order. Of course you should have already paired them with your PC before. While pairing them with your PC for the first time, if you pair the right joy-con first, BetterJoyMotion will usually connect them in the right order by default.

If you find certain moves too sensitive or not sensitive enough or want to make other changes, you can open the .config file in a text editor and read the instructions for how to configure motion controls and then make the adjustments you want to make.

About this project 关于本项目

The BetterJoyMotion application is a modified version of the popular app BetterJoy and adds the ability to map various motions to press buttons. Because I am not a programmer, it took a lot of work and it is not as user friendly or expansive as I might like. I will share configurations for games that I feel already work very well with the current functions of my app. If anyone else is interested in bringing motion controls to PC and has the programming experience that I lack, please reach out to me. I will try to add functions over the years, but progress will be slow and infrequent.
