Style and Gameplay
Garashasp is a 3rd-person action-adventure game, taking place in mythological ancient Iran, in a world occupied by monsters and Deevs. The game focuses mainly on combat with large weapons and heavy combo moves. Platforming and puzzle solving also play a major role in the gameplay style.
Story
Years after the confinement of Azhi Dahaka (Zahhak) by Fereydun in Mount Damavand, the evil Deevs who were the commanders in the army of darkness led by Azhi Dahaka rose again in different parts of the ancient lands of Khunirath and rebelled against the humans who were celebrating the victory of the army of light. Each Deev formed a colony of its own and continued on bringing suffering to the human race.
Hitasp, the Golden Crown, who possessed numerous deadly magical skills, was among these Deevs and was seeking to build up its empire in the rocky lands of Faranbagh in Hara Berezaiti. Siavoshgard, the legendary village that had been the home of many Pahlavans was raided by Hitasp and his followers and in the battle, Garshasp’s brother, Oroxia, was killed while defending his ancestral home.
Garshasp, the monster slayer and a grand son of Jamshid, starts out pursuing revenge for his brother’s blood by a journey towards the Hitasp's stronghold only to find out that something much more important has been taken in the raid of Siavoshgard and Garshasp’s bravery is to play a big role in the destiny of the world...

Mythological Background
The treasure trove of Iranian mythology contains within it some of humanity's oldest and most profound myths. They recount a rich and ancient culture, meaningful literature, and exciting legends that bring to life the excitement of Iranian civilization in all its glory - an experience often lost in the daily travails of modern life. Garshasp is a symbolic recreation of the spirituality, grandeur and mythical atmosphere of ancient Iran, derived from the epic poem Garshapnama written by Asadi Tusi (Firdausi's mentor and professor) and Avesta. Most of the images and scenes depicted in this game are drawn from or based directly upon historical resources and ancient stone carvings found throughout Iran, and a chain of thoughts that goes back thousands of years to the dawn of Western and Eastern civilizations alike.
Free software
Due to trade sanctions against Iran, Fanafzar used mainly free software tools to develop Garshasp.[1] These include the OGRE engine, OpenAL library, Boost C++ Libraries, and WxWidgets.[2] They have also said that they would love to make a Linux client.[3][4]
Reception
The Iranian website GamersLand published the first Garshasp review, and gave the game a 6.7/10 score.[5] Bazinama a famous gaming magazine in Iran rated the game 7.5/10, criticizing its bugs and gameplay, but calling it a shining point in Iran's video game history.
