This is my first impression of this game. As I play it, I will update it with a full review. All my impressions have been on an unsupported steamdeck (yes, I can play it, but there are performance issues, though I am okay with them - I have not played on my PC yet).
So, this is a multi-genre game that is pulling it off pretty well so far. I am still figuring out the controls of my first strategy game on steamdeck, especially one not built with it in mind, so it is a little more awkward than it would be on PC. The game its self has first person shooter aspects that I haven't yet accessed, an RTS aspect that id the main aspect of the game, which from what I've seen is done very well with very tough AIs (even on very easy), and a turn based hex board game for the campaign with 2 maps.
The campaign battles are set up to be like skirmish battles it looks like, but I haven't played enough to get a full understanding. It does seem that multiple armies mean multiple AI partners, which means massive battles.
The RTS battles have unit limits, both hard and soft caps, but the tutorial hinted that you could creatively bypass the hardcap somehow. The caps I have seen are 400 units, and I haven't seen units taking up multiple caps. So 1 rifleman also = 1 mlrs it seems.
Continuing the RTS battles, they play out a shocking amount like the rts classics of yore, like command and conquer classic and act of war. I consider this high praise. And this game had a skirmish mode specifically for the RTS mode too, ao you're able to play it unrestricted.
From my first impressions, I would recomend this game, even at $30. The graphics may not be fantastic, but I don't care about graphics all that much, plus I barely notice with everything going on in the battles.
I do know that this is my type of game and I am going to be enjoying it for a long time. |
