问:星际争霸2的前期活动现在已经可以通过Battle.net进行参与了 。而这个参与的过程是否就意味着星际争霸2的测试即将到来 ?  
答:随着时间的推移,封闭测试的开始已经离我们越来越近了。几个月前,我们已经将游戏的测试推广扩大到了整个公司,我们还做出了单独的测试程式。自那时起,我们就准备好邀请外部人员参与到测试之中,而且我们预料这个进行参与的过程会很快,所以我们现在就开始开放注册了。

问:此次BETA测试将提供怎样的游戏模式?
答:像以往的即时战略游戏的测试一样,星际争霸2 的测试将只提供多人对战模式,玩家将可以体验星际争霸2中人、神、虫三族所有的单位。可以选择多人地图进行比赛,但在最终版本出来之前不是所有地图都可以选择的。我们正在对单人战役的一些重要环节进行改进,但在游戏正式发行前,因为要对游戏单人剧情的保密原因,单人模式将不会被放在BETA测试版中。

问:在BETA期间我们会试用到新的Battle.net么?
答:可以在新的Battle.net上进行链接并且进行星际争霸2的BETA测试,可以确定的是你会有机会体会到其中的很多特点-但是你现在看到的特点也仅仅是它现在的风格。

问:在最近游戏的版本中,你们对游戏进行了什么更新或改进么?
答:我们将在整个游戏测试过程中对游戏不断进行调整平衡,但是可能对虫族的改动是重点。我们的模型团队已经对许多虫族的单位的外形和动画进行了抛光或重做,所以玩家可以有望看到那方面更多的细节。对于以前的本版来说,你看过的虫族单位和基地现在多了很多黏稠感,显得更邪恶。

我们也十分期待看到测试者可以向我们已经介绍那机场比赛一样做出新的战报机制,譬如说神族的质子充能和人族的电骡,都能使他们的采矿更加快速;而虫族也有了产卵能力使它们能够获得更多的幼虫从而以新的方法来扩大生产。我们希望水面的元素在一些战况紧张的时候,经济分配和战场微操的方面可以增加紧张的元素。(这句我也不知所云)

问:哪些地区可以参加星际争霸2 的测试?
答:我们计划星际争霸2 的测试包含多个国家和地区。首先是北美版,测试主要在美国和加拿大进行,同样,澳大利亚和新西兰也可以加入。在随后的阶段,我们将在韩国、中国台湾地区和欧洲尽快建立测试环境。

问:你们为什么不在所有地区同时进行星际争霸2 的测试?  
答:这是从一个更有效的发展角度去思考的,以望在一个地区进行一次测试。很大一部分的BETA测试包括了新兴的意见和网络基础设施的设置,这不是一个无足轻重的程序。如果我们一次在一个地区建立测试环境,我们可以在开始的时候,更快速的解决遇到的问题,吸取教训,从中学习经验,以图在下一个地区能够建立出一个更加流畅的测试环境。
我们还可以开展各种游戏展示以及对游戏进行的平衡变化,观察效果,并且在单独的测试环境中对更快发现的问题作出反应。通过一些测试环境,我们可以把一些不对的东西冻结并推出对其的改变。一旦这些主要问题被解决了,我们就可以在其他的地区展开测试,一个地区一个地区的进行也可以使我们有更好的垫子去完善测试版。

问:测试者可以对BETA进行文章、截图和视屏的制作传播么?
答:是的!测试者可以自由的写出自己的BETA试玩体验,同样截图和视屏也是可以的。我们正在考虑借助游戏玩家的手,来让我们可以听到他们的反馈,因为这样可以有助于推动我们进入最后阶段的发展和平衡。我们在星际争霸2上面一直很努力,我们没法等到最后听大家讨论它。

Q. StarCraft II opt-ins are now available through Battle.net. Doesthe opt-in process mean that the start of the StarCraft II beta isimminent?
A. We’re getting closer and closer to the start of our closed beta witheach week that passes. Several months ago, we expanded our internaltesting of the game to the entire company, and we’ve made significantprogress since then. We’re looking forward to inviting external testersinto the process soon, which is why we’re starting sign-ups now.


Q. What aspects of the game will be available for testing in this beta?
A. As with previous betas for our real-time strategy games, theStarCraft II beta test will be multiplayer only, and players will haveaccess to all three races -- terrans, protoss, and zerg -- and all oftheir units. We’ll include a selection of multiplayer maps, but theywon’t necessarily include all of the maps that will be in the finalversion of the game. We’re making some great progress on thesingle-player campaign, but we don’t plan to do a public beta since wewant to keep the story under wraps until the game’s out.


Q. Will we be able to try the new Battle.net during this beta?
A. You’ll be connecting to and playing on the new Battle.net in theStarCraft II beta, and you’ll definitely have a chance to play aroundwith a few of the new features -- but what you’ll see in the beta isreally only a taste of what’s to come.


Q. What updates and changes have you made to the game recently?
A. We’re constantly tweaking the gameplay and balance, and we will beall throughout the beta process, but perhaps the most visible changeshave been made to the zerg. Our art team has done a polishing anditeration pass on many of the zerg unit models and structures, soplayers can look forward to seeing a lot more detail there. Compared tothe versions you’ve seen before, the zerg units and bases now look alot slimier and more sinister.

We’re also really looking forward to seeing testers try out the newgameplay mechanics we’ve introduced to each race, like the protoncharge for the protoss and the MULE for the terrans that allow them toharvest minerals faster. The zerg also have a spawn larvae ability thatgives them a new way to expand their production. We’re hoping theseabilities increase the strategic tension for players and force sometough tactical decisions when managing economies and micromanagingbattles.


Q. Which regions can join the StarCraft II beta test?
A. Our plan is to include multiple regions and countries in theStarCraft II beta-testing process. We’ll be starting with a NorthAmerican beta, where testers from the United States and Canada, as wellas Australia and New Zealand will be able to join. We’ll then phase intesters in other regions such as Korea, Taiwan, and Europe as soon aswe’re able to set up in those areas.


Q. Why aren’t you running StarCraft II beta simultaneously in all regions?
A. It’s more efficient from a development standpoint to phase in eachregion one at a time. A big part of the beta test involves setting upnew hardware and networking infrastructure, which is not a trivialprocess. If we set up one region at a time, we can more quickly addressany issues we run into at the start, and take the lessons we learn fromthat experience to establish a smoother setup experience for the nextregion.

We can also implement all sorts of gameplay and balance changes, viewthe results, and react to what we’ve observed much more quickly in asingle test environment, as opposed to getting bogged down trying topush those changes out across several test environments. Once the majorissues are ironed out, we can expand the testing to additional regions.Going region by region will also put us in a better position to testlocalized versions of the beta.


Q. Will testers be allowed to write about the beta? Take screenshots and videos?
A. Yes! Beta testers will be free to write about their experiencesplaying the beta as well as take screenshots or videos. We’re reallylooking forward to getting the game into players’ hands so we can heartheir feedback, since that will help propel us into the final stages ofdevelopment and balancing. We’ve been working hard on StarCraft II, andwe can’t wait to finally be able to hear what everyone has to say aboutit.
